Nutrition for Seniors

Good nutrition is an important aspect of treating diabetes in seniors.1 With appropriate nutrition therapy, seniors with diabetes can be well-nourished, with a healthy body weight and blood sugar levels that are within the target range.1 Because undernourishment is common in residents of long-term care facilities, dietary restrictions should be minimized.1

An individualized meal plan should be prepared, taking into account each person’s daily activity and sleep patterns, as well as any comorbid conditions that may be affected by certain foods.1

The downloadable brochure below, “Nutrition in Seniors with Diabetes,” can help you assess seniors’ nutritional needs and capabilities, and also addresses some common food myths related to diabetes.
